You had me at 14,000 VHS copies of ‘Jerry Maguire’

The most beautiful and simultaneously terrifying thing is currently underway in Los Angeles: The Jerry Maguire Video Store.

The pop-up exhibit houses roughly 14,000 VHS copies of Jerry Maguire in English, Spanish and French. Everything Is Terrible (EIT!), a video-obsessed group with a treasure trove of unusual and forgotten videos of years past, is behind the project.

We finally went to the @everythingisterrible666 Jerry Maguire Video Store and it was glorious

I swear I found a copy of Forest Gump at the Jerry Maguire Video Store. Don't fret, the clerk promised he would destroy it.

According to the group’s website, EIT! started collecting videotapes of the film in 2008, mostly through fan donations. Their goal is to obtain every single living Jerry Maguire VHS tape on earth.

EIT! eventually made plans to create a 90s-era video store at the gallery space iam8bit in Echo Park, with Anna Bihari and Dimitri Sinakis managing the storefront (in character).

Funny thing is, you can’t rent or buy any of the Jerrys. The group has a much bigger Jerry plan: A pyramid.

Everything is Terrible! hopes proceeds from the Jerry Maguire Video Store exhibit and special performances will fund its ultimate goal — a pyramid of Jerry Maguire videotapes in the desert.

“We want to give the Jerrys a forever home,” Bihari told ABC7.

They even made a video about it:

Admittedly, it’s a very random mission and may leave you feeling confused. But don’t ask why — Ask how can I help?

If you or somebody you know has a VHS copy of Jerry Maguire that needs a loving home, you can donate it to the group via USPS media mail at:

P.O. Box 50825
Los Angeles, CA 90050 USA

“This is the stupidest incarnation of the American dream and it must be realized,” EIT! says.

The pop-up Jerry Maguire Video Store is open through Jan. 29, 2017.
